About the mentoring program

Who is eligible to participate?

Employees of the Ministry and its diplomatic representations, students of Lithuanian higher education institutions and citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who study in higher education institutions abroad are eligible to participate in the mentoring program.

Is mentoring useful?

The mentoring program can facilitate sharing your professional experience with young professionals and students.

Who may benefit from the program?

Employees


Employees who have just joined the workforce and seek to expand their experience and knowledge, those who have started to work in a diplomatic representation abroad or returned after a rotation and changed their role within the Ministry, and those who embarked on a new project that requires close cooperation with workers of another department or diplomatic mission. Young professionals who need help and guidance with their careers may benefit from the program.

Students


The mentoring program provides an opportunity for students who take an interest in the activities of Lithuania’s diplomatic service, foreign policy and international relations, diplomacy or want to discuss professional career issues to have a mentor in the Lithuanian diplomatic service and enjoy a mentoring relationship for 2-6 months.

Who can be a mentor?

Mentors can be employees of the Ministry and its diplomatic representations who have three or more years of experience in the diplomatic service. The Ministry draws on the pool of unpaid volunteer mentors.

Commitments of mentors and mentees

It is proposed that a mentor and a mentee discuss all aspects of mentoring practice – objectives, expected duration of relationship, frequency and form of meetings (direct or remote), ensuring compliance with the confidentiality agreement. Meetings between the mentor and the mentee should take place at least once a month.
